Friends of Medicare Reaction to the Federal Confidence and Supply Agreement

Today’s agreement between the Liberals and NDP includes concrete action on universal Pharmacare and dental care in Canada

Statement from Friends of Medicare Executive Director Chris Gallaway:

"Our health care system is under strain because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, while too many Albertans and Canadians are currently forced to forego necessary medication or dental procedures due to their high cost and entrenched economic inequality. These are everyday problems that Albertans face.

Today’s Confidence and Supply Agreement has put the health of people’s teeth, the cost of medication, better long-term care, and the future of our health care system at the centre of discussion and focus. It’s deeply moving to see at a time when action is so needed. We are hopeful that the agreement will provide stable leadership while helping families to access medical care they would not otherwise have been able to afford.

Going forward the details will matter. Follow through will matter. Friends of Medicare will continue to work with our local partners, other health coalitions and allies across Canada to ensure that the details of this agreement are fulfilled in a robust and timely manner.”
