On January 20, 2020, Friends of Medicare and Public Interest Alberta's Seniors' Task Force co-hosted this webinar. We were excited to be joined by guest speakers and seniors' care experts Dr. Margaret McGregor, Dr. Pat Armstrong, and Dr. Rebecca Graff-McRae (moderating) for this important and timely online conversation about our continuing care system during COVID-19 and beyond.

The COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, and Alberta is no exception. Across the country, for-profit care operators have failed to hire enough staff or to implement necessary protections to keep residents safe. But for the advocates who have long called for action to address the ongoing crisis in our continuing care system, the tragic toll of this health care crisis comes as no surprise. COVID-19 has only exposed the many shortcomings of our seniors’ care, borne of decades of privatization and perpetual cost-cutting.
