Communications and Administrative Officer
Friends of Medicare is hiring a Communications and Administrative Officer for its Edmonton office. This position is 40 hours per week. There is a six-month probationary period. The anticipated start date is January 22, 2018. This posting closes on December 8, 2017.
Friends of Medicare is a non-profit society dedicated to the strengthening and enhancement of public health care in the province of Alberta and across Canada. Since 1979 Friends of Medicare has advocated for the enforcement and enhancement of the Canada Health Act and for high quality public health care delivery to all residents in this province.
The position requires an individual who can help run a dynamic and progressive non-profit society in a time of shifting political landscape and high potential for improving and expanding public health care. This individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to be a self-starter to support events, campaigns, and day-to-day activities. Finally, this individual must have strong organizational and administrative skills to meet the financial and data processing needs of our organization.
The Communications and Administrative Officer will work with the Executive Director on a wide range of activities to manage administration, direct political strategy, and coordinate media activities of the organization. Specific duties will include:
Producing and editing written materials
Managing supporter and media databases
Posting social media updates
Coordinating member communications and membership support
Updating the organization’s website
Basic graphic design
Front office reception
Board of Directors support
Accounting and payroll
Starting wage will be $26-30 per hour, subject to ongoing collective bargaining.
This is a unionized position with the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 474, currently under negotiations for a first collective agreement.
